Self-drive Safari Getaway Experience
This Self-drive Safari Getaway package is ideally suited for those who want a weekend away which allows them the freedom driving to the beautiful malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve. You will stay in a well appointed chalet that has its own private plunge pool, which is the perfect place to enjoy a refreshing dip on warm afternoons.
You can go on guided game drives to explore the pristine Madikwe Game Reserve, which is known for its sightings of the Big Five and rare Wild Dogs. These are conducted in specially adapted safari vehicles and led by a knowledgeable guide.
At the lodge you will enjoy excellent service and hospitality. In the evenings you will dine on delicious food out around the campfire, and swap stories with your guide, who will tell you about life in the bush. You will then head off to your luxury suite where you'll fall asleep surrounded by the peace and quiet of the bush at night.
Day 1: Madikwe Game Reserve
You will have some time to settle into your room and enjoy a light lunch before you go on an afternoon game drive. This will be led by a knowledgeable guide, who will help you track down the wildlife. Stopping off in a scenic spot for sun-downers, before returning to the lodge where you will settle into a delicious dinner in the traditional boma (outdoor enclosure).
Later, after a couple of night-caps around the fire, you can head back to your suite, and drift off to sleep surrounded by the sounds of the African bush at night.
Day 2: Madikwe Game Reserve
In the morning you'll be woken up early by your guide, and have time for a cup of tea or coffee and rusks (Afrikaans biscuits), before heading out on your morning game drive. The reserve lies in an ecological transition zone, so you'll see antelope such as Impala alongside desert animals such as Bat Eared Foxes. You'll stop off after about 2 hours and have tea before continuing your Madikwe safari.
You'll return to camp and have a sumptuous breakfast out on the deck. This will be followed by some relaxation time. You can cool off with a swim or work on your tan. After lunch you will once again go on an afternoon game drive in search of Cheetah, Sable or Gemsbok. In the evening you will have dinner under the stars.
Day 3: Madikwe Game Reserve - Johannesburg
On the final day of your Self-drive Safari Getaway, you will have an early wake-up call before one last game drive. You'll return to the lodge for breakfast and check-out. You will then drive back to Johannesburg/Pretoria and drop your vehicle off at the depot.
