Pilanesberg and Madikwe Combo Experience

This 5 Day Classic Pilanesberg and Madikwe Combo safari package is ideal for couples or friends who want to enjoy a luxury safari in 2 of South Africa’s most beautiful malaria-free game reserves. You can set out on exciting game drives and experience excellent service while staying in comfortable lodges, all at a reasonable price. You will be picked up in Johannesburg or Pretoria and driven to the Pilanesberg Game Reserve where you will spend your first 2 nights.

You will explore the scenic Pilanesberg National Park, which is the site of an ancient extinct volcano that created interesting geological formations within the park. It is also home to many species of wildlife. The reserve has a range of habitats and you might glimpse desert adapted animals such as Brown Hyena, as well as rare antelope such as Sable. On the third morning you will be transferred to the Madikwe Game Reserve.

Once again you will stay in an elegant lodge. You’ll head out on daily game drives to see wildlife such as Rhino or Cheetah. In between safari activities, you can relax on the deck and adjust to the slower pace of life. At the end of the day you will drift off to sleep in your comfortable suite, lulled by the sounds of the bush.

Day 1: Johannesburg/Pretoria - Pilanesberg National Park

On the first day of your Pilanesberg and Madikwe Combo safari package you will be picked up in either Johannesburg or Pretoria from your home, hotel or the airport. You will then be driven to the Pilanesberg National Park. This drives takes approximately 2.5 hours and passes through some lovely farmland and open countryside.

You will arrive at the lodge where you will be staying around lunch time. Once you have settled into your Pilanesberg accommodation, you will enjoy a tasty lunch, before heading out on your first game drive. This will be led by a knowledgeable ranger who will help you track down the wildlife and tell you more about the animals you see. You’ll stop off in a scenic spot for sundowners, before returning to the lodge where you will have a sumptuous dinner served out under the stars.

Day 2: Pilanesberg National Park

In the morning you’ll have an early wakeup call. You will have a cup of tea or coffee and a snack before heading out on your game drive. The Pilanesberg National Park is characterised by the ring of hills that form a natural boundary. These are the remnants of an ancient volcano. You will probably see most of Africa’s Big Five during your stay, and you should also keep a look out for animals such as Cheetah and Eland while on your game viewing excursions.

You’ll return to the lodge for a delicious breakfast, which will be followed by relaxation time. You could enjoy an optional tribal showcase of Tswana and Zulu dance and culture or a session of interactive drumming. You could also pamper yourself with an optional spa treatment. After lunch you will go on another game drive to see what animals are active.

Day 3: Pilanesberg National Park - Madikwe Game Reserve

After breakfast you will check out and be driven to the Madikwe Game Reserve. The journey takes around 2 hours. You’ll arrive in time to settle in and unpack before lunch. You’ll go on an afternoon game drive, during which you might be lucky enough to see Wild Dogs or Gemsbok (Oryx). You’ll stop off along the way to have sundowners before returning to camp, where you will delight in a tasty safari inspired meal.

Day 4: Madikwe Game Reserve

On this day of your Madikwe safari you’ll head out to explore the reserve. Your guide will ensure that you have a memorable safari while tracking down animals such as the Big Five and Cheetah or Wild Dogs. You’ll return to the lodge for lunch and a rest before continuing your excursions into the surrounding bush.

Day 5: Madikwe Game Reserve - Johannesburg/Pretoria

On the last day of your Pilanesberg and Madikwe Combo safari package you’ll have an early wake up call, refreshments and then one last game drive. This will be followed by a tasty breakfast before you are driven back to Johannesburg or Pretoria.

Road Transfer Option

This package is calculated for 2 people sharing a standard suite. It is inclusive of all meals and game activities. The package can be booked on a daily departure basis and includes road transfers ex/to Johannesburg or Pretoria.
