Discover with your Children Safari Experience

The Discover with your Children Package offers the freedom of a self-drive safari, and is ideal for a family with 1 or 2 children under the age of 11 years. This Madikwe safari is also safe for pregnant women as the game reserve is located in a malaria-free area. You can reach the lodge in about 5 hours by road from Johannesburg and 30 minutes by road from Gaborone in Botswana.

The Madikwe lodge and spa has a superb position overlooking a huge natural waterhole, which attracts a lot of game and birdlife. The luxury thatched chalets are spread out around the water, offering excellent views of animals approaching from the opposite bank. Boma dinners in the open-air enclosure offer a truly African experience under the stars.

Create memories that last while spending quality family time together. You can relax at the pool in the heat of the day and enjoy delicious meals that are served indoors or outdoors in a variety of settings. There is an optional children’s programme for younger kids (ages 3 – 5 years) with plenty of supervised activities including a child-friendly game drive. Children between 6 and 11 years of age can accompany parents on adult game drives into Big Five territory.

Day 1: Johannesburg - Madikwe Game Reserve

There is an early start today so that you can collect your rental car from the nearest depot in Johannesburg or Pretoria. You will then drive to Madikwe Game Reserve, which takes about 5 hours with the last 30 minutes being on gravel roads. Depending on your arrival time, you can enjoy lunch after check-in.

Once you have settled in, you could explore the lodge facilities or spend time at the pool. Children enrolled for the Kids club will be issued with a backpack filled with everything they need. Babysitters can be reserved for those times outside of the Kids club hours.

Following afternoon tea, the evening game drive sets off. There will be a stop along the way for sundowners and then the ranger will get out the spotlight for nocturnal game viewing en route back to the lodge for dinner.

Day 2: Madikwe Game Reserve

The morning game drive sets off early in the cooler hours of the day after your wake-up call and tea or coffee. All game drives take place in open land rovers and are led by enthusiastic and knowledgeable armed rangers. The Madikwe Game Reserve is home to Lion, Leopard, Black and White Rhino, Elephant, Buffalo, Kudu, Gemsbok, Impala and Eland, Cheetah, Wild Dog and many more. Refreshments will be served along the way in a scenic spot.

When you return from the morning game drive, breakfast will be served and afterwards you can enjoy leisure time. Kids club members will be kept busy so parents can relax, browse the curio shop or visit the spa. In the late afternoon the evening game drive will once again take place, returning to the lodge in time for dinner in the boma.

Day 3: Madikwe Game Reserve - Johannesburg

This is the final day of your family safari holiday “Discover with your Children”. After breakfast you will say your farewells and check-out before the drive back to Johannesburg or Pretoria, where you will return the rental car to the depot.

Self - Drive Option

This 3 Day package is calculated for 2 adults with 1 child (6-11 years old) sharing one family unit. The package includes the car rental ex/to the nearest depot in Johannesburg or Pretoria.
