Getting to Tau Game Lodge, Madikwe Game Reserve

Tau Game Lodge is located in the heart of the malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve in the North-West Province, South Africa.

Tau Game Lodge in located in the Madikwe Game Reserve, South Africa. The Madikwe Game Reserve is situated in the spectacular setting of the Great Marico on the far northern border of South Africa. The nearby Dwarsberg Mountains' ridge boasts expose rocks up to 2630 million years old. Artifacts of the Stone and Iron Ages are still found in the Great Marico area.

With its diverse habitat of acacia Savannah and Riverine, the area boasts a variety of species including South Africa's Big Five, namely Lion, Rhino, Elephant, Leopard and Buffalo. The Madikwe Game Reserve is also home to over 250 different bird species.

Tau Game Lodge is easily accessible from Johannesburg by road. Johannesburg is about 380km from Tau Game Lodge. The drive will take about 4 hours, depending on traffic. Scheduled flights from Johannesburg OR Tambo International Airport depart daily. Private air charters are also available on request and planes will land at the Madikwe Airstrip.

Directions from Johannesburg

Driving from Johannesburg, take the N1 north towards Pretoria. Then take the split road from the N1 to Pietersburg / Polokwane. After the Zambezi off-ramp north of Pretoria, take the N4 toll road towards Rustenburg. Once you're on the N4, continue along this road to Rustenburg, Swartruggens, Groot Marico and Zeerust.

When you arrive in Zeerust, turn right at President Street onto the R47 to Gabarone. You will reach the first Madikwe Game Reserve after about 90km (55.92 miles) from Zeerust. Pass all the gates indicating Madikwe and drive to the Kopfortein bordern post going torwards Gabarone.

Turn right into the Derdepoort Gate road. The road is situated just before the border post. Continue along the road for about 10km (6.21 miles) until you reach the Tau Game lodge gate.
