Short break to Madikwe Experience

Discover the magnificence of the malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve on a weekend getaway. This South African safari is ideal for business people or couples who want a break from city living. The reserve is located on the border with Botswana and is the perfect bush retreat from either Gauteng or Gaborone. During your Short break to Madikwe you will stay in a comfortably furnished en-suite room.

Day 1: Johannesburg or Gaborone - Madikwe Game Reserve

If you are travelling from Johannesburg on your South African safari, you will be picked up early in the morning, as it takes 4 hours to travel to Madikwe. If you are departing from Gaborone your travelling time is 30 minutes. You will check into your luxury game lodge at lunch time. In the afternoon you will go on a game drive with an experienced and friendly guide who will tell you about the region.

The reserve is home to the magnificent seven (Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhino and Buffalo as well as Cheetah and Wild Dog), and you may see all of them during your stay if you are lucky. You'll stop off for sundowners in a scenic spot before doing a short night game drive, after which you will return to your Madikwe lodge and enjoy a sumptuous dinner.

You explore the region on game drives in an open safari vehicle with a knowledgeable guide who will help you track down animals such as the Big Five and beautiful, rare Wild Dogs. The guide will tell you about the animal's behaviour as well as stories about life in the bush. You may even see desert adapted species such as Brown Hyena and Gemsbok (Oryx).The service at your luxury lodge will be excellent, and in the evenings you will savour delicious meals out under the stars. Drift off to sleep listening to the gentle sounds of the African night - the distant roar of Lions or the call of an owl.

Day 2: Madikwe Game Reserve

Early in the morning you will be woken up. You'll have time for a quick cup of coffee, before heading out on a morning game drive. The reserve is an ecological transition zone and you may see desert adapted animals such as Gemsbok, Springbok and Brown Hyena. You should also keep an eye out for some of the regions over 300 species of birds.You'll return to your Madikwe Game lodge for a refreshing breakfast out in the garden. You will then have some time to relax and perhaps have a refreshing dip in the pool. You'll have a late lunch followed by your afternoon game viewing activity. In the evening you will enjoy a delicious dinner out under the stars in the traditional Boma (meeting place).

Day 3: Madikwe Game Reserve

On the final day of your Short break to Madikwe you'll have one last game drive before breakfast. You will then be driven back to either Johannesburg/Pretoria or Gaborone. Arrival in Johannesburg/Pretoria will be in the late afternoon and Gaborone will be around lunch time.

This 3 Day package is calculated for 2 people sharing a double en-suite room. It includes all meals, 2 game drives daily and road transfers ex/to Johannesburg / Pretoria or ex/to Gaborone.
It is also possible to be collected in Gaborone and dropped-off in Johannesburg depending on your routing. Please ask our Destination Specialist about this option.
